A new Vice Principal has been appointed to UTC Derby Pride Park.

Lee Kirkwood has 13 years’ experience in education. He was previously Senior Director of Maths at Nova Education Trust in Nottingham.

Prior to that, Lee was Head of Maths at Outwood Academy City in Sheffield. He started in post at the UTC, on Locomotive Way, in December 2019.

He said: “I’m excited to have joined a growing and vibrant technical school that is training the next generation of talent in the specialist skills that regional employers need.”

UTC Derby Pride Park is a technical school for 13 to 19-year-olds, which specialises in engineering and is offering a second technical specialism in life sciences from September 2020.

Backed by some of world’s best-known companies including Bombardier, Rolls-Royce and Toyota, and the University of Derby and Derby College, the UTC joined The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust earlier this academic year.

Nick Crew, Executive Principal, The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust, which has two UTCs that are Ofsted graded ‘good’, added: “I’m delighted to welcome Lee to our team as we continue our work to create a talent pipeline for the region’s top employers.”
