Christmas Jumper Day 2020

UTC Derby Pride Park students donned their Christmas jumpers and glitter in order to raise money for Save the Children’s 9th annual Christmas Jumper Day.
Year 9 and 10 students studying the Health and Life Sciences specialism also shared the day with residents from four local care homes in Derby. The virtual festivities took place via Zoom which allowed local care home residents to take part in sharing the celebrations.
The students shared festive treats and Christmas past stories with the residents, and are looking to set up a regular time where they can continue to meet via Zoom in the future.
The homes involved included: Derby Heights Care Home, Old Vicarage Care Home, Brookfields Care Home and Kingfisher Court Care Home.
Lucille from Brookfields Care Home said of the event: “Thank you so much for organising today. Our residents loved it and are now in a very happy, festive mood.”
One of the residents when on the live call said: “This is great, we didn’t expect to see any young people this year, it’s great to see you all.”
It was lovely to do our bit to support the Save the Children fundraiser whilst spending time virtually with our friends in Derby. The students donated five full boxes of toys which will be distributed to children who may not otherwise received gifts this year.
