Engineering students take part in virtual energy challenge

Year 9 Engineering students studying Systems Control have been working virtually with Derby Museums on a project to design an energy saving device for use in the home as part of Big Energy Saving Month in January.

The national campaign aims to help people cut their energy bills and get the financial support they are entitled to.

Students were given the following scenario to work from:
You are to assist an adult with a family and working from home to reduce their energy usage by looking at how best they can monitor their usage.
This involved looking at the different uses of energy and how each member of the family may use energy at different times of the day.
The project consisted of several virtual events which took place with the students working in small groups to produce Rapid Prototypes and then develop their ideas further. They also created a logo for their brand. Students have developed their ideas during lockdown by using both freehand and CAD designs.
