Health and Life Sciences students participate in practical workshop creating fake wounds

As a specialist science and technology centre, the UTC helps students to develop the kind of technical and scientific skills which the healthcare sector increasingly needs.

Our Year 9 Health and Life Sciences students were recently involved in a practical workshop in one of their lessons at the UTC. They worked in the Health Suite in teams to create ‘fake’ wounds on each other. This experience allowed students to not only understand the different types of wounds, but also how to treat these types of wounds in a real-life Health setting.

Dr Claire Pegg, Curriculum Director of Science, commented: “This was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about the Healthcare sector in an exciting and practical way.”

The UTC’s state-of-the-art facilities allow students to develop their transferable skills and gain an insight into their potential future careers within Health or Life Sciences.

A Year 9 student said: “I really enjoyed creating the wounds – they were very realistic!”
