UTC Derby Pride Park students celebrate best ever GCSE results

UTC Derby Pride Park students are celebrating the technical school’s best ever GCSE results.
At the UTC for 13 to 19-year-olds on Locomotive Way, students complete GCSEs and technical qualifications in engineering or health and life sciences.
This year’s GCSE results are the highest ever since the UTC opened in 2015.
- 100% of students have met or exceeded target grades across all core subjects
- 79% of students have achieved a GCSE grade 4 (pass) or above in English
- Nearly two thirds of students achieved a GCSE grade 5 (strong pass) or above in maths
- 68% of students achieved a GCSE grade 4 (pass) or above in combined science
- 100% pass rate in all subject areas
Lee Kirkwood, Principal of UTC Derby Pride Park, said: “It is fantastic to see our students progressing with their academic studies as well as developing technical skills and achieving the best GCSE results since the UTC opened.
“I’d like to congratulate them on their achievements and wish them all the very best as they move on to the next stage of their education and training.
“Huge appreciation also goes to our staff and employer partners for their support, particularly given the challenges from the pandemic of the last two years.”
Student Mutayeb Ali, 16, said: “I chose the UTC because it specialises in engineering and works with employers. I have really enjoyed the hands-on learning.
“We’ve worked on some interesting projects as part of our coursework which have included designing a home for people with disabilities. It’s been really interesting to discuss different ideas.
“Studying during the Covid-19 pandemic was difficult but I think UTC Derby Pride Park handled it really well. I felt very pleased and relieved when I saw my results.
“I’m looking forward to staying on at the UTC sixth form and studying engineering. My ambition is to go onto an engineering apprenticeship in the armed forces.”
